Shanna’s Baby Brunch

One of my best friends, Shanna is having a baby girl this Spring (any day now, actually) and my friend Stephanie and I had the honor of throwing her “Brunch De Bebe” Baby shower  at my house this past February.

We may have gone a little overboard on the details, but the results were just so beautiful!! My amazingly talent friend, Megan Childers from Ever Ours Events hooked us up with the most insanely gorgeous flowers for the event and I decided that flower crowns should be every day attire. We had a “Mom-osa” bar, equipped with champagne and sparkling water for the moms. We devoured mini quiches (handmade by my awesome husband) and I’m pretty sure I had four donuts when the day was said and done.

I snapped some photos of the event and we even got some dreamy snow fall to take a few maternity photos afterwards. I cannot wait to meet baby H. She is already so very loved.

Jon + Christy Married

I couldn’t have imagined a more amazing way to finish my wedding season than with Jon and Christy’s insanely gorgeous Detroit wedding. Like, dream-it-they-will-come, showstopper wedding.  From the venues, to the oh-my-gosh flowers to the most perfect first look…this wedding would have been a dream wedding for any photographer and I am so honored that I was able to witness, celebrate and document their day.

What I loved even more than all of the amazing details of their  big day is the love that Jon and Christy have one another.  I don’t have to go into detail, because as you scroll through the photos, you won’t just see it.. You’ll feel it. Your chest will tighten, your nose with tickle and your eyes will fill with the same joy that permeated through their  entire day.

A wedding like this and a love like theirs is what fills my heart with joy and  continually solidifies that love is in fact, what makes the world go round.

a big shout out to the very talented Lindsay Decker for documenting this day with me.

Jeff + Tracey Married

As a wedding photographer, it’s sometimes hard to put down in words just how much each individual experience means to me. I do not use the words, “It was an honor,” lightly. I hold this job with the utmost, sincerest respect. Because no matter how I met each client, whether they started out as a friend or a stranger, they end up feeling like family. My heart opens up just a little more with each first kiss I capture through my lens.

When I shot Jeff and Tracey’s ceremony, I didn’t even know their last names. In fact, I had only just met them 24 hours before. I was up north shooting another wedding in Northport when Jeff and Tracey approached me. “Excuse me… but are you a professional photographer?” they asked. Their wedding photographer had cancelled on them and they asked if I was available to shoot their sunset wedding ceremony on the beach.  Of course I couldn’t leave them hanging and I mean…  a sunset ceremony… on the beach… up north?  OK.

I can still remember the sound of the waves slowly lapping against the grey stone beach and the soft, warm breeze that came from the trees. We had the entire section of the beach to ourselves and their ceremony has to be, one of the most beautiful ceremonies I’ve ever witnessed.  For only knowing them a day, the sincere love that poured from this intimate moment was palpable.

Then, at almost exactly 8:45 pm, as the sun warmed the last bit of day, Jeff and Tracey said, “I do.” We all wiped the tears from our cheeks and toasted to their marriage (with wine from my absolute favorite Northern Michigan winery, Mawby) and just like that, I felt the shift from stranger to family. I even actually remember the mother of the groom saying to me, “You know you’re family now, right?”

Life has given me this opportunity to be capture these moments; to be a writer of light and it is, an honor.

Gary + Jade Married

This wedding. What wonderful memories were made during this weekend. From dance parties to wine tours, this weekend was the definition of a weekend done right.  Gary and Jade took the time to plan every tiny detail to ensure that this wedding celebration was amazing for everyone in attendance… including the photographer and her husband! We felt like family and made some great new friends. Heck, we even have some new nicknames to show for all the fun!(ahem, Falcon!)

Gary and Jade, It seems like just yesterday that we were having breakfast together talking wedding plans that were 2 years out. Thank you for allowing me to tag along on this incredible journey. Chase and I wish you a wonderful life together, full of love and (kayak free) adventures.

As the last of the autumn leaves fell this past weekend, I’m holding onto memories of these gorgeous fall colors and this gorgeous couple’s engagement shoot. I mean, look at these two. Ah, i can’t get over it!  I cannot wait for Brendan and Amanda’s winter wedding… and to think, I’m actually dreaming of snow for this one!
