Despite my best efforts to slow time down, summer is spinning by in a whirlwind of tiny, wonderful moments. What makes it a harder pill to swallow is that being an adult pulls me away from the things I love most; like spending time at my favorite lake in the whole world.
Growing up, the rules of summer were simple: Enjoy every drop of every summer’s day until the star-filled evening breeze force your eyelids closed.
As I get older, I find myself longing for those summers…But at the same time, I am thankful for how life is changing. Friends are getting married, following their dreams and starting families. Take two of my favorite people, John and Bobbi. It’s hard to believe that they are on baby #2! It seems like just yesterday that I was shooting their wedding… what was it, seven years ago?
I am so grateful that I get to capture their growing family in the same place they exchanged their vows — at John’s parent’s home, nestled between acres and acres of gorgeous farm land.
My favorite thing, perhaps is that even though we are getting older and we move farther away — this corner of our world stays the same. The land is just as lush and John’s mom’s raspberry pie is JUST AS AMAZING AS IT ALWAYS WAS and no matter how far away we get and no matter how busy we become, I am so thankful to be able to capture these tiny, wonderful moments on film.
Putting their personal touch on all the details, Ian and Jessica’s wedding day was built to perfection. From the invitations and flowers to the venue and the UH-MAZING DONUT BAR, everything fit together seamlessly. But it wasn’t the details that made their wedding day one for the books; it was the love that Jessica and Ian exuded for one another. Grounded in their commitment, you can just see how these two will be in 50 years… totally in love and thankful to be traveling through life hand-in-hand. Cheers, you two! Thank you for allowing me the honor of capturing your wedding day.

Ok, so confession: I watch a lot of Grey’s Anatomy when I’m editing. And while most of the time, it’s simply background noise for me — I was up late one night when I heard Meredith say, “You never know the biggest day of your life is the biggest day. Not until its happening. You don’t recognize the biggest day of your life. Not until you’re right in the middle of it. The day you commit to something or someone… The day you get your heart broken. The day you meet your soul mate. The day you realize there’s not enough time… because you want to live forever. Those are the biggest days. The perfect days.”
And oh, how that fits Erica and Rich’s wedding day. I wish we could live this day forever, because it truly was… the most perfect day.
My darling E and Rich — Go forth and keep this day; this love alive in your heart. Wake up with each sunrise knowing there is no day that you cannot find your way through and there is no greater story you could write than the one you’re living. Know that I love you both dearly and I will always have a bottle of Cab Franc stocked, should you ever need it. Now — Go. Get weird with life. XO,Whit.

When I first met Amanda and Brendan, they shared with me their dreams for their romantic winter wedding. They wished for the perfect winter day; sunny and snow covered. Living in Michigan, you never quite know what you’re going to get weather wise.. Sometimes when you want snow, you get rain and when you think it’s Spring, a late April snow will prove you wrong every time.
But alas, Amanda and Brendan got their gorgeous winter wedding. In fact, everything about their wedding was gorgeous. From the light that poured through the stained glass windows of the church, to the gorgeous, perfectly-white snow that covered the world to all the tiny details.
One of my best friends, Shanna is having a baby girl this Spring (any day now, actually) and my friend Stephanie and I had the honor of throwing her “Brunch De Bebe” Baby shower at my house this past February.
We may have gone a little overboard on the details, but the results were just so beautiful!! My amazingly talent friend, Megan Childers from Ever Ours Events hooked us up with the most insanely gorgeous flowers for the event and I decided that flower crowns should be every day attire. We had a “Mom-osa” bar, equipped with champagne and sparkling water for the moms. We devoured mini quiches (handmade by my awesome husband) and I’m pretty sure I had four donuts when the day was said and done.
I snapped some photos of the event and we even got some dreamy snow fall to take a few maternity photos afterwards. I cannot wait to meet baby H. She is already so very loved.
