Michael and Colleen were married on the most perfect Spring day here in the Mitten. The grass had turned green over night, the sun bounced brilliantly over the Great Lakes and every thing was just as it should be. But you know.. the thing about Michael and Colleen is that it even if it had been snowing or pouring rain, their wedding day still would have been perfect because of how much they love each other. I feel so honored to have been a part of their wedding day and to have been a witness to their love.
Their wedding was the perfect way to welcome Spring and a new wedding season… with a grin ear to ear and a heart full of love and gratitude.
As someone who craves the sunshine, I have to admit that January was spent curled up under heavy blankets, anxiously awaiting for February to arrive. You see… for me, February is the true beginning of the new year. It’s when the sun starts to stay longer and it’s when I celebrate my birthday. Looking back, my 27th year was pretty incredible. I traveled, I celebrated the second year of my marriage, I became a runner again after a ten year hiatus, I conquered my professional fears, I sturdied my friendships, I celebrated the wonderful life of my Uncle Harry and I had the honor of photographing some truly amazing people.
So as I enter the last month of my year, I give thanks to the precious year in passing and I open my arms wide to everything 2014 will bring.

As a young married woman myself, my babies are my two cats, Eli and Jonsi. They are spoiled rotten. They each have their own antique chair by the fireplace where they sleep. They get little tuna Thanksgiving dinners every year as a tradition and no matter what trouble they cause, they always end up curled up with Chase and I at the end of the night.
The furry child love runs deep with my friends as well. Amanda and Brian adopted their first child, Penny from a shelter just under a year ago. Penny and my cats have one big thing in common– their owners, ahem– I mean parents, love them unconditionally and it’s easy to tell that the feeling is mutual. Wait till you see Penny smile, your heart is going to melt.
Stephanie, Shanna, Shelly and I. The four of us, inseparable. That’s the way it’s been for almost fourteen years. Even though we have been spread out over cities and states, we have never left each other’s side. We have seen each other through date-less dances, exams, heartache, loss, career changes, babies, successes, failures and love.
Going through just about everything together, I truly believe that we are more protective of one another’s hearts than we are our own. So when it comes to the men in our lives, we are armed to the teeth. Our significant others not only had to earn the stamp of approval, but they had to earn their spot in our obnoxiously close and fast talking group. The screening process is nothing short of extensive and can sometimes be brutal. But, in the end– it just shows how much we mean to one another.
When it came to Freddy, I think we may have gone a little easy on him (He may beg to differ but that’s not the point). He came into Stephanie’s life and it just made sense. There is just something so easy about Stephanie and Freddy. They go together like cozy sweatshirts and Saturday mornings, like friends and laughter. Stephanie loves Freddy completely and it only takes one smile from him to realize just how much he loves her.
I think their engagement session was a perfect example of that easy going happy love. I mean, just look at them.
